Artist in Residence

As the ARTBOURNE exhibition is held every two years, in the “in-between” year Wellesley hosts an ARTBOURNE artist residency and an exhibtion at the completion. The first three resident artists have been painters and sculptors, – Wayne Youle 2010, Ben Timmins 2013 and Sam Duckor-Jones 2015, and all exhibitors in the main ARTBOURNE exhibition. We are open to broadening the residency in the future to include the wider creative arts. We welcome a conversation with you if you are interested in finding out more. Contact artbourne@gmail.com

Art is a key part of the Wellesley curriculum. The School boasts a large, airy art studio and this, coupled with the stunning location between the bush and the sea, creates a great physical environment in which creativity can be nurtured.  Glen Jorna -the Head of Arts-and a practicing artist himself, welcomes a collaboration with the resident artist in his lessons with the boys. Moreover, the artist residency allows the boys to experience and work alongside an artist throughout their creative process.  This has provided yet another dimension to the boys’ art experience at Wellesley.

The residency is for a three to four week period, with the artist being paid a weekly stipend and for all the art materials used during the residency.

As part of the residency, the artist is encouraged to produce works for exhibition at Wellesley’s Celebration of the Arts at the end of the residency. The artists’ work will be available for sale and a percentage will go to the Wellesley College Foundation in support of Promising futures for boys financial scholarship campaign.
