Jane is an internationally exhibited and recognised artist, being selected to represent New Zealand in 2011 at the Chianciano Biennale, winning third place in the Leonardo Prize (Works on Paper category), as well as being selected for the Florence Biennale in 2006. She has been a winner, and previous finalist, of the trans-Tasman Cricket Art Prize in Australia, and her work featured in Denis Robinson’s book New Zealand’s Favourite Artists. Predominantly self-taught, but having attended courses at prestigious London art schools, she exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2000. Born of a mind fascinated by tension and abstraction, Jane’s paintings draw on atmospheric ambiguity and intuition. She manipulates scale, organic textures and constrained tonal variety to achieve strong works imbued with light and potency. Jane has recently opened Jane Kellahan Gallery in Martinborough.
